We believe in post-consumer recycling
Did you know ...?
Plastic bottles often end up in landfills, in the ocean, or on the side of the road instead of the recycling bin. Plastic can kill animals, leak harmful chemicals into water supplies and soil, and ultimately disrupt entire ecosystems.
Recycling prevents the emissions of many greenhouse gases and water pollutants, and saves energy. Using recovered material generates less solid waste. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by the extraction and processing of virgin materials. Also, when products are made using recovered rather than virgin materials, less energy is used during manufacturing, and fewer pollutants are emitted.
Post-consumer recycled material refers to everything we toss into the recycling bin, such as empty plastic bottles or aluminum cans. These materials are collected by local recycling programs and shipped to recycling facilities where they are sorted into bales based on material.
Our Fabrics / Materials
In our aim to be a benchmark in sustainability, our main fabrics fiber are made from recycled materials including used plastic bottles, which in turn is used to make sustainable clothing items and other products.
PET bottles is the most common way to produce recycled polyester today. To obtain a polymer of equal value as the raw waste material, the contamination of waste has to be very low. It takes about 50 PET bottles to make a fleecejacket.
( 1 ) PET PLASTIC BOTTLES
The first step is to collect and was the PET bottles.
( 2 ) BOTTLES SCRAPS
Stripped of their labels and caps, they are crushed to pieces.
( 3 ) CHIPS
The scraps are chopped into flakes melted and made into chips
( 4 ) FIBER
The chips are melted and extruded into fibers
( 5 ) PROCESSED FIBER
The fibers are crimped cut, dawned and stretched.
( 6 ) FABRIC
Textile fabrics are made from the fibers
A crucial advantage of using recycled polyester over virgin polyester is the reduction of bottles in landfills. Plastic bottles are reused in the fibre production process of recycled polyester and this in turn has major benefits for reducing contamination of the earth as well as water and air pollution. This also means reduced use of petroleum which is used in the creation of virgin polyester.
Recycled polyester results in huge energy savings (of up to 45%) during the fibre production process compared to virgin polyester. Choosing recycled polyester over its virgin counterpart also means a 20% reduction in water consumption and 30% less CO2 emissions.
